"I don't know what's going on here…but I think I like it."
— Carly & Spencer in their dreams.

iDream of Dance is the third episode of the first season of iCarly.

Plot

Idreamofdancehq3

Carly, Freddie, and Sam watching the dance videos

The iCarly gang becomes interested in dancing after Miss Briggs invites Scottish highland dancer Benjamin Yip to class. As a contest on iCarly, they decide to announce a dance contest where fans could send them videos of them doing their best, worst, craziest, or stupidest dance moves and if they're good/bad/crazy/stupid enough, they'll show them on iCarly to the world. When they get over 3,000 videos and wonder how they’ll watch that much before the next show, they decide to watch 500 a night. The iCarly gang tries watching the dance clips, but soon ends up falling asleep and having dance-related dreams.

They all start by sharing the same dream. The dream starts when Carly, Sam, and Freddie arrive at school, tired from watching the 500 clips, and they all admit that they don't even remember waking up that morning. Just then, the school bell rings, and the lights dim, and the other students and some teachers, except for the trio, start dancing, leaving them to wonder what's going on.

Sam's Dream: Highland

Sam's Dream

Sam's is first. Her dream begins with her and some her classmates in detention. Miss Briggs plays her bagpipes, and Sam is confused to see amps behind Miss Briggs. As she starts playing, everyone magically changes clothes and they dance, with Sam unable to control her dancing and constantly questioning what is going on. When the song is over, Gibby runs into the classroom in his boxers and asks, "Am I late for the test?" to which Sam replies, "Get outta here Gibby, this is my nightmare!" before Gibby runs out of the classroom.

Freddie's Dream: Cute Boy

Freddie's Dream

Freddie's is second. His dream begins with Zeke, the boy Freddie called a nub, bothering Carly. Carly asks Zeke to leave her alone, but when he refuses, Freddie defends her, and they end up engaging in a dance battle. In the end, Freddie beats Zeke in the dance battle and Carly falls for him.

Carly's Dream: Fancy

Carly's dream

Carly's is third. She wakes up on the floor of her empty living room, wearing a dress, wondering where Sam, Freddie, and the furniture are. She goes to get juice, and a boy in a suit comes out. She then finds 8 more boys in suits, including Zeke, coming from random places in her apartment. Carly and the boys perform a dance number, and Spencer wakes everyone up toward the end.

Spencer's Dream: Fancy (Reprise)

Icarly-103-idream-of-dance-spencer-and-carly-1

Spencer's Dream

Spencer finds his helmet and shin guards and is ready to do The Firecracker, but Carly, Sam, and Freddie are all too tired and call it a night. Spencer is disappointed and falls asleep on the couch. Spencer's dream is exactly the same as Carly's, and is even wearing Carly's dress, only this time, he wakes up surrounded by all the boys. The dance from Carly's dream resumes and as Zeke and all the other boys vanish, Spencer looks around as says "weird" as the episode ends.

Guest Stars

Trivia

  • The dance scenes were choreographed by Lane Napper, who also appeared in the shared dream as one of the dancing teachers and Ernie in iWas a Pageant Girl. Napper has choreographed many dance scenes for Dan Schneider, including the dance scenes from the opening theme of the All That reboot and the complicated dances performed on Victorious.
    • Napper also appeared as one of the dancing teachers in the dream on Victorious as Lane Alexander.
  • While most episodes of iCarly have debuted on Saturdays, a few on Fridays and Mondays, and two on Wednesday, this is the only episode to premiere on a Sunday, along with dance themed episodes of Drake and Josh, Zoey 101, Just Jordan and Unfabulous.

    Production Still

  • In the dance clip shown right before the trio is shown asleep on the couch, the music in the background is also used in iNevel.
  • The clip of Carly moving her shoulders in "Fancy" was used throughout the first season theme song.
  • In Sam's nightmare, she said she wasn't flexible after pulling her leg up to her head. Yet in IGo to Japan, she hoisted her leg up to her head again to remove dead skin from her foot.
    • She may have become more flexible by the time of iGo to Japan.
  • Eric Nelsen, who played Zeke, starred in 13, a Goodspeed and Broadway musical, which also had Elizabeth Gillies and Ariana Grande from Victorious.
  • Spencer's Dance "The Firecracker" can be seen on iCarly.com.
  • This is the only iCarly episode to air on the same day as a Drake & Josh episode, specifically the episode, Dance Contest, the series finale of Drake & Josh.
  • Even though this is the third episode of iCarly, the production code is 113, meaning this was the thirteenth episode produced.
  • This is the first time that Sam eats her breakfast in class until she puts it in Freddie's backpack.

Allusions

  • In Freddie's dream, his dancing is a parody of Michael Jackson's hit single, "Beat It."

Character Revelations

To be added

Goofs

  • When Carly, Sam and Freddie sit down to start watching the dance clips on Carly's TV, there is a camera shot of the TV that shows some sort of ornament on top of the TV set. However, in subsequent shots of Carly, Sam, and Freddie, there is a pile of books on the TV.
  • Freddie said they had over 3,000 dance videos come in an would have to watch 500 videos a day before their next webcast. However, 500 times six is exactly 3,000, so they would have to watch more than 500 a night because he said that more than 3,000 videos came in.
    • Also, he told them at school, and assuming it was Monday, they would only have 4 days to watch and pick the best videos, giving them over 750 to watch a day.
  • Carly puts a lemon wedge on Sam's glass, but after Sam tells Freddie about it, it is replaced with an orange wedge.
  • The dent marks on Gibby's locker change between shots.
  • After Spencer throws the moldy biscuit back in the drawer, it can be seen on the floor in subsequent shots.

Running Gags

To be added

Series Continuity

  • This is the first episode Gibby appeared in.
  • Freddie had to get a new backpack after Sam dumps her breakfast in it. His new backpack is his current backpack in both Season 2 & 3. Yet, in the next few episodes, he is still using his old backpack. He could've gotten a backpack identical to the old one.
    • Dan Schneider has stated that episodes of iCarly are not always shown in the order they were produced, causing some continuity errors. This is the 3rd episode to air, but the 14th episode in production order.

Quotes

Ms. Briggs: Today, we have a very special treat.
Gibby: [raising his hand] Spelling bee?
Ms. Briggs: Quiet, Gibby! Since you young people today know nothing about fine arts, prepare to be stimulated by a true performer.
Gibby: [raising his hand] Ryan Seacrest?
Ms. Briggs: Gibby!

Freddie: Well, I had to go buy a new backpack…cause someone dumped her breakfast in mine!
Sam: You're lucky I didn't dump it down your pants.

Sam: [to Freddie] Aw, now ya see that? Carly puts a nice slice of lemon on my glass. How does she think of that?
Freddie: 'Cause Carly's classy.
Sam: Oh, and I'm not classy?
Freddie: Classy people don't clean out their ears with their cellphone antenna!
Sam: That was your cellphone antenna.
Freddie: What! [grabs his phone out of his pocket and groans] No wonder I keep dropping calls!

Sam: [on the webshow] Dirkenshnoff!
Carly: Dirkenshnoff?
Sam: It's foreign for good evening!
Carly: In what language?
Sam: Foreignese!
Carly: I don't believe you. But since I have no proof…
Sam and Carly: Dirkenshnoff!

Freddie: [About Zeke] Oh, come on…He's a total nub!
Carly: If he's a nub, then someday I wanna be Mrs. Carly Nub.

Gibby: [runs into class in only his boxers, holding a pencil and a notebook] Am I too late for the test?
Sam: Get outta here, Gibby! This is my nightmare!
[Gibby runs out of the classroom confused]

[a boy comes out of the fridge]
Carly: Hey. Wait, you're not juice. [backs up and sees another boy] Oh, juice boy's got a friend! [sees 2 more]…and 2 more…

Carly/Spencer: [after seeing the boys in the apartment Carly and Spencer will dance with in their dreams] I don't know what's going on here…but I think I like it.
